The Guardian: "On the day after the Portugeuse beat Spain one of the local newspapers gave expression to the feeling of collective relief coursing through the nation. Its front page simply said Thank You. For providing a tournament of such grace and beauty the same words seem fitting. Obrigado."

Sky Sports: "What did emerge from this tournament it that there is undoubtedly a club and international football issue and there were some tired legs on display. However, it was a wonderful festival of international football and it is essential that these events still maintain their importance in the calendar. ... Overall, Euro 2004 was the most joyous European occasions I have been to. It even surpassed England '96 and it was way ahead of Holland and Belgium. Congratulations to Greece but a huge well done to the hosts Portugal as well."

BBC: "As the dust settles on Euro 2004 and the fans head home, they can reflect on a tournament rich in quality and entertainment. Thrilling games played in colourful stadia and a host nation that welcomed its visitors with genuine warmth has ensured the event will live long in the memory."
